The Blue Mauritius

The Blue Mauritius is the rarest of the rare collectibles – an 1840’s postage stamp where only twelve are known to exist. It’s the subject of rumor and intrigue. A handmade character with connections to European colonialism, it’s significant to the history of global communications and a damaged one is worth a cool million dollars. Of the twelve, there’s one that’s more coveted than the rest. One stamp, which is key to both a murder and a legendary fortune. Some will do almost anything to possess it, either to learn or bury its secrets and it’s about to be stolen. Five glamorous international thieves find their way to Cape Town, South Africa to prepare for the heist of the century!

Somewhere Slow
Intimate, raw and funny, features a searing and complex portrait of Anna Thompson, a 40 year old skin care rep, coasting through an unfulfilled marriage and an estranged relationship with her family. When Anna gets mixed-up in a deadly convenience store robbery, she makes a split-second decision and walks out of her life and into the unknown. On her travels, she meets Travis, a teenage drifter on his own journey of self-discovery. Together they break into the New England summer home of Anna’s childhood. It is in this quiet house, far away from the world, that both Anna and Travis begin to shed their protective shells, and for the first time, embrace the simple human connection they’ve spent their lives avoiding. Sparse and provocative, this film shines light on how sometimes we must learn to break our own rules to find the life we’ve been yearning to live.

Rivers Wash Over Me
The film touches on race relations, incest, drugs, and growing up gay in the American South. A recent New York City transplant, Sequan Greene (Derrick L. Middleton) has been sent to live in Alabama after the recent death of his mother. He is brutally raped by his cousin Michael Wilis (Cameron Mitchell Mason). It becomes clear that Michael also is gay – a victim as well as a victimizer. He says, “I can’t be a faggot …You’re the faggot. You’re my faggot.” Sequan is also bullied and beaten up at school. Sequan soon finds a friend in Lori Anderson (Elizabeth Dennis), the girlfriend of drug dealer/basketball player Ahmed Robins (Duane McLaughlin). Lori is the town’s “bad girl” who has a heart of gold. Although she freebases, snorts coke throughout the school day, steals guns and sleeps with the town basketball star, she is immediately taken by admiration of Sequan and his brazen nonconformity. Despite Sequan’s unwillingness, Lori manages to befriend him, bringing him out of his shell and eventually introducing him to both moonshine and her gay brother, Jake (Aidan Schultz-Meyer).

Cocktails and Chaos
Somewhere, deep within the Nevada desert, below the sun-cracked terra firma, a secret (and imaginary) crew of military scientists has installed a giant champagne bottle into a missile silo. They’re creating one of the most amazingly flamboyant weapons of all time. Their plan is to distill the essence of Scandalous Salon owner David Nyblom and his cohorts to create a weapon never before seen. Upon feeding house music into the 180-inch bass speakers within the silo, the massive champagne bottle would shake, and ultimately eject the cork with such force that entire continents of conservative mothers would fall to their knees in disbelief. You may ask yourself: “Who is this guy David Nyblom.” If you actually asked yourself that, you should either trade in those Z Cavaricci’s and hit the town, or just stay tuned for what will be the most colorful show ever to air from the streets of the Silicon Valley. “Cocktails and Chaos,” a show so far from what most people would recognize as reality it will spawn a new genre, “The Surreality Show.” With a cast of characters that ranges from Nyblom, to Sammy Crocco (his assistant), to Bill Funk (Nyblom’s best friend and owner of Tinker’s Damn), it’ll make your head spin clear off your neck. That range includes Rose Hill (a celebrity make-up artist whose first kiss was from Neal Diamond), Bliss Katopothis (Nyblom’s second cousin and first responder), a masterful Real Estate agent, a skillful Botox technician, a dog trainer, a vocally talented party attendee, a Queen of the Ballerinas, and an army of empty cocktail glasses. All would make Oscar Wilde blush with their stories. This is a dangerously interesting lot.

Summer in Berlin
Distribution
Hot summer. Nike has a balcony, Katrin has a son, Ronald drives a truck, Tina’s a waitress, Oskar and Helene are old and alone. At the beginning, middle or end of their lives – they all ask the same question: Can love last through the seasons? Or is it something affecting the brain that just comes and goes? With a sharp eye and great love for his characters, director Andreas Dresen has crafted the story of two girlfriends, who, from their balcony – between heaven and earth – gaze down at their turbulent and difficult universe, where the right men are all too often exactly wrong, and to get ahead even a good-looking woman had better be strong. Screenwriter Wolfgang Kohlhaase, employs his remarkably light and crisp style to maintain a fine balance between comedy and tragedy, aided by an outstanding cast, featuring Inka Friedrich, Nadja Uhl and Andreas Schmidt. Andreas Dresen’s SUMMER IN BERLIN is an enchanting comedy, full of human warmth, sincerity and delightful humor – a film about life.
